The best of the “Best League in the World”. 7 main “Championship” nominations

Date: July 13, 2024 Time: 20:00:03

“Championship” summarizes the season in the Melbet First League. Previously we recognized Dinamo Makhachkala as the best team and its fans as the brightest. The strongest footballer was Tula Arsenal striker Jonathan Okoronkwo. Now the time has come to highlight the most notable events of the championship. We’ve identified four categories: best match of the season, as well as best goal, meme and main event. Who won? Let’s talk!

More information about the first nominations

Match of the season

“Khimki” – “Arsenal” – 3:2, matchday 26

The most important match for the winner of the First League. Khimki suffered two defeats before the meeting with Arsenal and allowed the rivals to get closer to them. “Akron” was equal on points (42), and “Dynamo” Makhachkala, Tula and “Rodina” were two points away. The match with Arsenal became key: either Khimki continued to fall or maintained the initiative in the fight to enter the RPL.

The match absolutely met all expectations. Arsenal scored first: in the 34th minute, Ishkhan Geloyan crossed from the left wing. But in the second half Khimki finally woke up. First, Alexander Rudenko tied the score by responding to a shot and hitting the Arsenal goal from a tight angle. And in the 75th minute, Butta Magomedov put the hosts ahead! He rolled the ball into Nikita Kokarev’s goal, knocking over Arsenal defenders like bowling pins.

Do you think that’s all? No, the fun is just beginning. Already at the end of the match, Sergei Tkachev received the ball in the Khimki area, won the fight over the defender and then shot through Igor Obukhov. And in the 90+6 minute the home team finally won: Sergei Varatynov shot into the Tula goal from outside the area. And I have it! How happy the Khimki players were and coach Andrei Talalaev raised his hands to heaven. The three most important points for the team.

In the next round, Khimki lost at home to Shinnik (0:1), but then went on a four-win streak. If it were not for the most important three points with Arsenal, perhaps we would not have seen Khimki in the RPL 2024/2025.

Andrei Talalaev

Khimki head coach

“I liked the game. I think the fans do too. Many emotions, many goals. The only thing that disappointed us a little was the second goal that we missed. We hit the area, we lose the fight… However, the attitude and dedication of the team showed that we absolutely deservedly fought for this first place. We do what we can in the field. Maybe a little worker-peasant, but we fulfill our tasks.”

Goal of the season

Maxim Petrov, Khimki – Neftekhimik – 1:3, matchday 23

Khimki suffered their first defeat in the First League since September 2023 in a home match against Neftekhimik. And the first goal of the guests is a delight! In the 24th minute, the guests attacked from the left flank: Lipovoy sent a touch into the area and Maxim Petrov shot over himself as he fell. And he became the author of an incredible dance! This beauty probably enchanted Khimki. The hosts conceded twice more, responding with a single goal.

meme of the season

Katran – Chernomorets mascot

Katran is the mascot of Chernomorets. Last season, the Novorossiysk Club actively used the mascot in its activities. Katran constantly appeared on social media and at games, both home and away. For example, the mascot traveled with Chernomorets on trips to Moscow, Krasnodar and even Khabarovsk.

And the main performance was Katran’s appearance in the Russian Cup All-Star Game. The Chernomorets mascot spoke to the commentators and knocked down Vladimir Bystrov. And during the match he jumped onto the field, for which he received a red card from referee Sergei Karasev. But Katran didn’t go anywhere and decided to help the Path of Regions team. The mascot took the ball and ran with it towards the goal of the Puti RPL team, he broke through everyone and scored. To do this, goalkeeper Evgeny Frolov jokingly pushed Katran. In general, everyone remembered the Chernomorets mascot!

seasonal event

Akron’s first entry into the RPL

Akron was only founded in 2018. And in six years it will play in the RPL! The meteoric rise of a private club owned by businessman Pavel Morozov is a great story for Russian football. “Akron” ended up in the First League in 2020. And for three seasons I prepared to solve the problem of entering the RPL. Although Akron began to make a splash throughout Russia already in 2023. On the regional route of the Russian Cup, the residents of Tolyatti passed four Moscow clubs: Torpedo, Dynamo, Lokomotiv and Spartak. And in the final of the lower group they lost to Krasnodar only in the penalty shootout.

Akron started the 2023/2024 season with coach Evgeny Kaleshin, but in November 2023 he was replaced by Zaur Tedeev. The Club managed to finish third and qualify for the transition matches. The rival was Yekaterinburg Ural. Of course, the RPL club was the couple’s favorite. But Akron unexpectedly beat Ural in the first away match with a score of 2:0. And he scored first at home, conceding twice at the end. The final score 3:2 in favor of Akron allowed the team to reach the RPL for the first time in history!

Now in the elite division there are two teams from the Samara region (also “Wings of the Soviets”). Another region is rapidly developing football. Akron is the second completely private club in the RPL after Krasnodar. An excellent example for other teams and regions of the Russian Federation. And the Akron boss promises big changes regarding entry to the RPL.

Pavel Morozov

akron owner

“In its current form, the team is not ready for the RPL. Of course, there will be quite serious changes. It’s not long before the start of the championship, but we are thinking about doing some selection work. It is worth waiting for the transfers “at the entrance”.

Akron eliminated Ural from the RPL and gave us back 2013:

What was Russian football like the last time Ural played outside the RPL?
