David Benioff and Daniel Weiss have a complicated relationship with the public. In 2011, the showrunners released the first season of Game of Thrones and gave the world one of the best television series of our time. However, eight years later, they ended the saga in such a strange way that fans still haven’t moved on.
It later became clear that Benioff and Weiss were experts at filming ready-made stories, but failed when they had to invent them themselves. Still, in the final seasons of Game of Thrones they could not trust Martin, who would not finish A Song of Ice and Fire.
It seems that when choosing a new project, the showrunners took into account the mistakes, so they took on the entire trilogy “Remembrance of Earth’s Past” by Liu Cixin. In 2015, the first part of the saga “The Three-Body Problem” was considered a literary phenomenon and received a prestigious award.
Cixin’s novels are so multifaceted that successfully filming them is a daunting task. This will be confirmed by the Chinese, who filmed their show and put half the audience to sleep. But what happened to the showrunners who started on Game of Thrones? Fortunately, a new super hit.

“The problem of the three bodies”: where to look?
All eight episodes were released on Netflix. There is no Russian dubbing, only subtitles.
The video is available on Kinoman’s YouTube channel. The rights to the video belong to Netflix.
The plot is more interesting than in “Lost.”
Liu Cixin came up with an incredible plot, where each chapter surprises, confuses and turns everything upside down. To fully enjoy it, it is better not to know anything about the Three Body Problem. Just immerse yourself in the story, it will grab you from the first episode and won’t let you go until the end.
If you still want details, here’s the plot. Imagine a world where the fundamental laws of physics no longer apply. In the novel, Cixin describes this madness using the example of hitting a billiard ball with a cue stick.
“Imagine that for the first time a black ball pushes a white ball into a pocket. In the second, Black rebounded. On the third, a black ball flew to the ceiling. To the fourth, he ran across the room like a scared sparrow and disappeared into your pocket. And for the fifth time, the black ball, taking on a speed close to that of light, broke the side of the table, passed through the wall and left the Earth.”
Scientists will have to go through a lot to get answers.

Losing their support, science simply stopped developing: the laboratories are useless, funding is cut, no one understands anything. Another problem is that the greatest scientists are starting to die en masse. Furthermore, before dying, they see a strange countdown before their eyes, which is not interrupted for even a second.
These mysteries are somehow related to the innovative game “The Three-Body Problem.” Wearing a special helmet, players find themselves in a cruel world: people try to build a civilization, but disorderly cataclysms destroy it again and again.
What’s going on? How is the game related to reality? Is someone really holding back scientific progress? But who is capable of this? This is just a small part of the intriguing questions that will definitely haunt you.

It is curious that the showrunners not only surprisingly conveyed the atmosphere of the novel and meticulously filmed the key episodes, but also improved the plot. For example, one of the heroes of the book was Wang Miao: he played the game “Three Body Problem” and saw the same countdown before his eyes. In the series, his roles were divided between several characters, each with their own interesting conflicts, beliefs, and problems. This made the story more dynamic.
If something in the novel already worked perfectly, it was touched to a minimum. Consider the tough agent Da Shi, who was the first to find a connection between the mysterious events. His character and plot were slightly changed, leaving the essence the same.
It turns out that Benioff and Weiss took the best of the novel and successfully wrapped it in a series format. As a result, “The Three Body Problem” is no worse than “Lost.”

Epic, beautiful, well played.
The series was filmed with high quality. This is evident in the opening scene, where Chinese revolutionaries beat up unwanted scientists. Everyone is dressed in authentic costumes, there are numerous extras, the characters loudly shout crazy slogans and roar convincingly, making the moment extremely dramatic.
The actors deserve special praise. Eiza González turns out to be an excellent scientist who is about to be crushed by an unknown force. John Bradley is nothing like the meek Sam from Game of Thrones: he is now bold, energetic and self-confident. Benedict Wong played the cynical and depressed detective superbly. It is thanks to the efforts of these guys that the drama works.
I can’t complain about the images either. The graphics may not be on par with Avatar, but they’re still impressive. And the scenery is absolutely delightful. One look at the giant antenna of the Krasny Bereg complex will make you feel like a grain of sand.
Beautiful shot
