The world champion Lahm explained the choice of the teddy bear as the mascot of Euro 2024

Date: June 19, 2024 Time: 13:12:13

Philipp Lahm, world champion in the German national team and director of the upcoming Euro 2024, described the bear cub, which became the mascot of the tournament, as an inspiration for children.

“Soccer gives incredible strength, promotes teamwork, perseverance and a healthy and active lifestyle. It brings pleasure. As a parent, I know how important it is to keep children’s imaginations alive. When we introduced our mascot, we hoped to create a fun and lovable character that would inspire children to enjoy football,” Lam told UEFA’s official website.

According to the former captain of the national team, in the digital age it is important to go where our youth spend a lot of time. The talisman will reflect football, the movement and excitement of playing on the field, team spirit, as well as the joy of your skills and creativity.

The bear cub has become the official mascot of Euro 2024. It was first introduced in one of Gelsenkirchen’s primary schools.

Fans will be able to determine the name of the mascot within the next two weeks by voting on the UEFA website. The four variants are inspired by the German word “bär” which means “bear”: Albärt, Bärnardo, Bärnheart and Herzi von Bär.

The European Championship will take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2014.
