Rostov-Don filed a protest against Daria Dmitrieva’s participation in matches, but she played anyway. FGR opened the case.
The first final match of the Russian women’s handball championship turned out to be amazingly intense. CSKA beat Rostov-Don by four goals and took a big step towards gold medals.
In this match, Daria Dmitrieva, Olympic champion, former captain of the team who spent this season in the Slovenian Krim, appeared on the court as part of the army team. The Rostov club filed a protest against Dmitrieva’s request, and the Russian Handball Federation opened a disciplinary case.
“It’s up to them.” Russian handball players move en masse to European clubs
CSKA had many losses before the final. Antonina Skorobogatchenko went on maternity leave, Karina Sabirova was seriously injured and, God forbid, will return only next year, and Ekaterina Ilyina was also injured and she is unlikely to play at least one final meeting.
These are all the main players through whom the game was built. CSKA, after winning the semifinals over Lada, made a gentleman’s move (for an army club this is generally symbolic) – it entered into negotiations with Krim to return Daria Dmitrieva, a world-class player, to the point guard on loan.
The contract with CSKA expires on July 1, and so far Daria is a handball player for the army team. She only from the next season she will become completely “Slovenian”.
FGR opened disciplinary file for inclusion of Daria Dmitrieva in CSKA’s application
But Rostov-Don did not put up with such a situation. Naturally, when you also have serious losses, there is no one else to strengthen you, and the opponent suddenly gets a tough player, it’s a pity. The Rostov club filed a protest with the FGR to verify the legality of Dmitrieva’s application for the 2022/2023 season. The federation accepted the protest and opened a disciplinary file. But the decision will be made no later than May 31.
The first game of the final, which is played up to two victories, is on May 25. Dmitrieva entered the application for the Moscow meeting, but she did not appear on the site until the very end. Which is the reason? It can only be guessed. Perhaps the representatives of CSKA clarified the regulatory issues and, having received a positive answer, informed the head coach Olga Akopyan.
Perhaps Hakobyan simply realized that it was difficult to fit Dmitriev into the team’s actions in a couple of training sessions. In general, Daria played less than four minutes, but she managed to score a cool transfer to Albina Murzalieva, after the goal in which Muscovites had a two-goal lead. Less than two minutes before the end of regulation time is a huge advantage.
Rostov-Don tried to win back, but the guests made several mistakes in time trouble, and as a result, CSKA brought the lead to four goals. However, this is of no importance, since the main thing in the final is to win two matches. No one needs a score difference.

The end of an incredible game, in which there were goalscoring feats, goalkeeper saves, great passes and goals from empty nets, in general, there was everything, it stayed with CSKA. The second match of the final will take place on May 30 in Rostov-on-Don.
So far, CSKA is one win away from gold. But everything can change depending on the decision of the FGR on Daria Dmitrieva.
