Russian Veronika Kudermetova defeated former world number one, Poland’s Iga Szwiatek, in the quarterfinals of the Tokyo tournament 6:2, 2:6, 6:4.
The meeting lasted 2 hours 23 minutes. Kudermetova served four times, committed two double faults and converted three of eight break points.
Swiatek has one ace, six doubles and two breaks with four chances to win the game on someone else’s serve.
In the semi-finals, Kudermetova will face her compatriot Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who previously defeated another Russian, Ekaterina Alexandrova.
