The Lokomotiv-Kuban players fought until the end, but without White, Ndour and Miller they could not reach the decisive match.

The fourth game of the series for third place in the VTB United League was played in the “Basket Hall” of the glorious city of Krasnodar. The local Lokomotiv-Kuban fought with Zenit St. Petersburg for the medals, but in the end they were left with nothing. How was the match, who performed better on the court? Read about this in the “Championship” material.

The Krasnodar team opened the scoring in the match: Devon Akun-Purcell scored two points on the pass. The teams did not have time to play two minutes of the game and Juwan Morgan committed three fouls against the Loko players. Javier Pascual had to immediately change one of his players. The clubs continued to exchange productive attacks and Andrey Martyuk gave Krasnodar a solid lead with two three-pointers for 14:8.

For Zenit, Trent Fraser led the attack well, but the basketball player himself could not score points. However, Loko responded to all the attempts of the blue and white with excellent actions: a spectacular and at the same time effective blocking shot by Kirill Elatontsev, a successful three-pointer by Akun-Purcell. A fairly even quarter, where Fraser made the teams breathe a little with a great blow: 23:21 in favor of Loko.

The second quarter opened with a “three” by Thomas Ertel, but for the locals Andrei Martyuk made two shots from the penalty line and was the first of both teams to exchange 10 points. Afterwards, Zenit began to move the ball better and made significant progress, led by Ertel, Vince Hunter and Andrey Zubkov. But now Loko responded brilliantly to the opponent’s actions – three three-pointers, two of which were scored by Carvel Anderson and one by Vladislav Yemchenko. And the entire advantage of the St. Petersburg club sank into oblivion. 45:42 – in favor of Krasnodar.

The return to the field took place and the game changed its vector a little. Brilliant, offensive actions were replaced by maximum defensive density on both sides. Loko’s two greats, Martyuk and Elatontsev, continued to break down Zenit’s paint, but the third quarter was even and ended with a slight advantage for the blue and white: 18:17.

As in all matches in the series, it was not clear until the end who would emerge victorious. Neither team wanted to give in. In the end, Alexander Shcherbenev came into play, making several great passes, but also hitting the important three-pointer. It is true that the Russian point guard received his fifth foul and could no longer help his team. But Martyuk continued to torment the visiting defense. Zenit also had its heroes: Fraser and Morgan scored eight points between them in a minute and a half and forced Loko to call a timeout.

Alexander Sekulic probably tried to convey to his players that the most important period of the match, and perhaps the season, was approaching, that they needed to prove themselves if Loko wanted to compete for bronze in the United League. One minute before the end of the match, Zenit was ahead by 80:76. The locals have the ball, from the wing they take it to Martyuk, who is blocked by Morgan. In the next attack, the orange again ends up in the hands of Andrei, but this time the railway center received a foul in the attack on Fraser. The Neva club took advantage of the opportunity: Hunter scored from mid-range. A series of fouls on both sides followed, but Zenit won 88:77.

Loko fought, but without Okaro White, Patrick Miller and Maurice Ndour it was very difficult. “Zenith” and Javier Pascual – bravo! The team also lost Kyle Kuric and Boyan Dubljevic, but despite the obstacles they took bronze in the United League. Tomorrow we will be able to see the champion, since in the series between CSKA and UNICS the military team leads with a score of 3-0. Follow the United League with us.
