Brian McLellan, the General Manager of the NHL team “Washington Capitals,” spoke about his club leader Alexander Ovechkin. In addition, he praised the performances of compatriot Yevgeny Kuznetsov and noted that the club expects more from him.
” Ovechkin had a strong year, I’m happy with his work,” says Capitals president Dick Patrick. “But from Kuznetsov, we need even more activity in the attack.” Says team head coach Todd Reirden of defenseman Brooks Orpik who missed 12 games last season. “And these guys should be leading the team,” he adds. “This is a given.”
McLellan also commented on the Capitals’ struggles in attack, saying they struggled without a player like T.J. Oshie, who missed three weeks in November thanks to an injury.
When Ovechkin returned to the line-up, he changed everything. Opponents are unable to simply avoid him. While weight is lifted, opponents don’t want the Capitals captain too high in their own zone either, so they will routinely block his shots. That’s how much of an effect he can have even when he isn’t playing any hockey himself.
