Alexander Ovechkin, even in what was not the most successful season for him (and perhaps even the most unsuccessful in his career), managed to set a lot of records. The year 2024 has been especially fruitful in this sense. Ovi has managed to surpass Wayne Gretzky several times in recent months.

The teams enter the final phase of the current regular season. They all have about 10 games left to play. In just three weeks the regular season will come to an end.
It is noteworthy that even now Ovechkin can set a number of important records and achievements. It is clear that this is not Alejandro’s main objective in the coming weeks. And not even the main Gretzky album. Now Ovi is focused on leading Washington to the playoffs.
But this only means that the capital captain will be productive and useful on the field. And therefore, he will be able to break new records.
We have compiled the main milestones that Ovechkin is approaching. For clarity, we divide them into records (when Ovi reaches the top) and achievements (when he approaches the leader).

Records
Goals in April
Ovechkin already broke the NHL record for most goals in March, surpassing Gretzky. April will soon begin and this month the Washington forward can also write his name in history. Now the record for most goals is held by a true legend: Teemu Selanne. The Finn scored 66 career goals in April. Ovechkin is only one goal behind. At the same time, Washington will have nine games this month. If nothing extraordinary happens, Ovi will conquer this record.
Seasons with more than 30 goals
This season, Ovechkin has already reached the 25-goal mark, placing him in second place in the number of championships with more than 25 goals. But soon he will be able (and, in a good way, should) set a similar record. Alexander now shares first place with the legendary Mike Gartner in number of seasons with 30+ goals. Each held 17 such championships. Ovi is only four goals away from achieving this achievement. It is very possible to set a new record.
Seasons with more than 35 goals
A record that will be incredibly difficult for Ovechkin to conquer this season, but the chances still remain. Currently, Washington’s captain has 14 seasons with more than 35 goals. He shares the record with Gartner himself. If Ovi scores at least one goal in the remaining matches in the capital, he will be able to conquer this record.

Away games with 2+ power play goals
We couldn’t help but insert a niche record, but it’s still important in its own way. During 19 years in the NHL, Ovechkin played 15 road games in which he scored at least two power-play goals (including playoffs). He now shares first place with Dino Cissarelli and has a real chance of overtaking him. Proof of this is his recent performance in the game against Calgary, which allowed Ovi to repeat his record.
Extra time points
Ovechkin scored two points in overtime this season and closed the gap on NHL leader Sidney Crosby. The Washington forward scored 40 points in his career, the captain of Pittsburgh – 43. However, this season Sid has yet to score effective actions in overtime. So Ovechkin has every chance, especially considering that at the end of the regular season the fight will be even more intense, which means that the probability of going beyond the main time is higher. However, let’s not forget that Ovi shares second place with Evgeni Malkin. And Gino also scored two points in extra time in the 2023/2024 season. Therefore, the fight for leadership will be very interesting.
Achievements
Assists among the Russians
Ovechkin currently ranks third in NHL history in assists among Russians. And Alexander is behind Sergei Fedorov only one assist: 696 against 695. It is no longer realistic to reach Evgeni Malkin (792), but Ovi must beat the former Detroit and Washington forward.

The power moves in the NHL
Ovechkin could very well become the third all-time hitter in NHL history. Alexander performed 3605 weight lifts and is now in fourth place. Dustin Brown, who has since retired, is in third place (3,632). Three hits per game and Ovi will move into third place this season. It is impossible to catch leaders Matt Martin (3,837) and Cal Clutterbuck (4,000).

Here the Washington captain is very far from being in the top three, but this season he should be in the top 35. Ovechkin now has 1,416 NHL games with 10 more championship games left. Alexander shares 36th and 37th place with Al MacInnis. In front are Luke Richardson (1417) and Pat Verbeek (1424). Ovi will not catch up with Luc Robitaille this season, who is in 33rd place (1431), but he can reach 33rd place without problems if he does not miss the games.

1000 goals at adult club level
