What to play after the Fallout series if you have completed all the Fallouts

Date: July 23, 2024 Time: 03:15:37

The Fallout series pleasantly surprised me with its quality, combination of serious themes with humor and attitude towards the canon. After watching it, many wanted to play the games themselves again. But what should those who already know Fallout by heart do?

Fortunately, there are many games inspired by Fallout or at least similar to it in one way or another. Today we will talk about them.

Wasteland 3

Wasteland 3

One look at Wasteland 3 is enough to make Fallout fans feel a sense of déjà vu, which is not surprising, since the first Wasteland came out long before the first Fallout and, in many ways, became the basis for the cult series.

The third Wasteland takes place in Colorado after a nuclear winter and is clearly reminiscent of the scorched wastelands of the Mojave or New California. Only instead of searching for lost relatives, you must complete the tasks of the mysterious Patriarch.

The local game combines elements of classic role-playing and strategy games. There is also a fascinating plot, memorable side activities, character levels, as well as tactical battles in turn-based mode, based on the competent use of heroes’ skills. It turned out to be an interesting take on a post-apocalyptic scenario.

The outer worlds

The outer worlds

“Fallout in space” is how The Outer Worlds was described even before its release. Studio Obsidian intends to create another Fallout: New Vegas, but only in a new setting. The events take place not on Earth destroyed by nuclear war, but in distant colonies at the edge of the galaxy.

This is a good old-fashioned RPG, every element of which screams budget. This is especially true in the case of unsightly graphics, animations, and an unsophisticated combat system. But behind all these problems lies a fascinating, non-linear adventure full of interesting content and dark humor. And because of the variability, The Outer Worlds really makes you want to play it again several times.

Rage

Rage

Rage was developed by the creators of classics like DOOM, Quake and Wolfenstein, and the team itself was led by the legendary John Carmack. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a frankly passable game that suffered from terrible optimization and monotonous gameplay.

But the post-apocalypse itself turned out to be incredibly atmospheric and crazy. After all, traveling through charred places, enjoying post-nuclear landscapes and, sometimes, shooting enemies from a varied arsenal is a pleasure. A great option for a couple of afternoons.

Atom RPG

Developer: Atom Team Release date: December 19, 2018 Platform: PC, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS Classification: 70%

Atom RPG

If Fallout takes place in the American expanses, Atom RPG reveals to players the aesthetics of the Soviet wasteland. There was also a nuclear conflict between the two blocs, which resulted in the apocalypse. And in this cruel world the main character has to survive.

In this isometric role-playing game you must explore the world around you, collect resources, escape from mutants and establish contact with other survivors. On the other hand, it is worth highlighting the character editor, the turn-based battles and the non-linear plot. And, even despite the shortcomings in the form of an awkward interface, weak AI and sometimes uninteresting quests, the project can attract you for many hours.

Do you want to delve into cyberpunk Hong Kong, which is shaken by conflict and there is chaos and anarchy in the streets? Then you should try Shadowrun: Hong Kong. The main character must complete many interesting tasks to cleanse the metropolis of numerous opponents and make it safe.

Players have at their disposal an isometric camera, a fascinating plot, a leveling tree and the ability to enable turn-based battle mode alongside enemies. The title attracts attention not only for its unusual gameplay features, but also for its unusual setting and unique atmosphere.

Russian studio Dark Crystal Games was so inspired by the original Fallout games that they decided to make their own version. To achieve this, the post-apocalyptic setting was combined with elements of retrofuturism and science fiction. The result is Encased, a turn-based RPG set in an alternative 70s.

The main character is studying the mysterious Dome, completing many tasks from different factions and actively leveling up. All decisions made affect not only the fate of the world, but also the gameplay. Despite many innovations, the gameplay is reminiscent of classic titles of the past. Therefore, fans of the genre should definitely give Encased a try.

Mad Max

Developer: Avalanche studies Release date: September 1, 2015 Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox One Classification: 69%

Mad Max

Apparently, where is the game adaptation of the Mad Max movies and where is Fallout? In the creation of the Avalanche studio, you will take on the role of Max Rokotansky and travel through a huge open world, capture fortresses and collect various debris to survive. This is a fast-paced action movie with fast-paced action, great acting, and fun combat.

However, there is actually a lot more in common between these two franchises than might seem at first glance. There are lifeless expanses, some settlements that grew on the remains of a previous civilization, and textured characters. It is not surprising that the authors of the first Fallout were inspired, among other things, by the paintings of George Miller.

Metro Exodus

Developer: 4A Games Release date: February 15, 2019 Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series Classification: 83%

Metro: Exodus

Metro Exodus may be closer in spirit to the STALKER series, but it is in the creation of 4A Games that one of the most atmospheric variations of the post-apocalypse in gaming is presented. Furthermore, it was in the third part that Artyom and company finally escaped from the subway to the surface, which revealed the local universe in a new way.

In Exodus, the authors worked a lot on the gameplay, adding new mechanics and deepening old ones. It turned out to be an extremely exciting adventure through a variety of landscapes, from the deserts of the Caspian Sea to the ruins of Novosibirsk. On this path, the heroes not only encountered dangerous mutants and various factions, but also made important decisions on which the end of the story depended.

Under rail

In terms of game design, atmosphere, level of location crafting and mechanics, UnderRail is very reminiscent of Fallout 2. In fact, it is a more modern incarnation of classic isometric RPGs with a non-linear story and varied game situations.

Other features include turn-based combat, well-written dialogue, and huge role-playing opportunities. The main thing is not to be afraid of weak graphics, because behind it lies a unique game in a post-apocalyptic environment with more than 100 hours of content.
