Babikov and Povarnitsyn each missed four times, and 33-year-old Pyotr Paschenko was ahead of everyone.
The summer Alfa-Bank Russian Biathlon Championships continued in Krasnoyarsk with the men’s sprint. A significant part of the main team’s roster is not taking part in the tournament, and the reasons are not entirely clear, except for Alexander Loginov’s broken arm. The other part was lost by a biathlete who trains with the junior team.

In the absence of such greats as Eduard Latypov and Karim Khalili, those who had such a start to their careers should have come to the fore. But this time things did not go well for the more experienced Anton Babikov and Alexander Povarnitsyn. Both failed four times and were far from contending for medals.
Anton finished in 16th place and Alexander in 24th.
Eduard Latypov also disappointed everyone in Krasnoyarsk. They did not expect such shots from him!

But another experienced athlete, 33-year-old Pyotr Pashchenko, won. The biathlete from Khanty-Mansiysk beat everyone he could with just one mistake. Following the results of last season, Pashchenko earned a place in the main squad of the national team, but together with the coaches he decided that he would train with the juniors.

Silver went to another Yugra resident, Nikita Porshnev (two misses, +9.4 seconds behind), who announced his retirement last season and then returned. The top three was completed by Evgeniy Emerkhonov (two misses, +27.9 seconds), who finally shot without an incredible number of misses.
But to be fair, if the list of participants was complete, Evgeniy would hardly have had the opportunity to do anything other than attend the floral ceremony.
The 19-year-old Leonid Kulguskin deserved special attention. Having accurately performed the work on the prone line, the athlete claimed to be included in the awards. But he made a mistake on the podium and was left out of the top three medalists. However, he once again proved that he is capable of fighting for the top positions.

With just over 10 seconds left to claim the bronze medal, the biathlete from Novosibirsk finished fifth.
The skiers’ personal opinions ended there. Next on the programme is the classic relay race. Well, the sprint gave both the coaching staff and the athletes themselves something to think about. There is something to think about before the big winter. There, the excuses that summer is a preparatory period will not work at all.
How Kulguskin made a splash:
There is a new star in our biathlon. A 19-year-old breaks onto the podium of the Russian Championship
