The Sacramento Kings leader can move on to Kevin Love.
In the history of the National Basketball Association, there have been many big men who skillfully racked up double-doubles. It’s just that some people put it into practice and became one of the best in their business. Who holds the NBA record for longest consecutive double-double streak? There really aren’t that many characters in this story.
First of all, what is a double-double? This is a performance in which a player scores in double figures in two of five statistics (points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks) in a game. In large part, it is thanks to points and rebounds that double-doubles are accumulated in the NBA.
This problem has been resolved. So who owns the longest streak of consecutive double-doubles in league history? The answer is quite simple: Wilt Chamberlain, which is perhaps not surprising. At one point, the legendary center surpassed many players in the league in both anthropometry and skills, thanks to which he scored many points and at the same time collected countless rebounds. Between 1964 and 1967, Chamberlain recorded 227 consecutive double-doubles. At the same time, Goliath has the second and third longest streaks: 220 and 133 double-doubles in a row.
Vembanyama shows unique numbers:
Vembanyama has more blocked shots per game since the All-Star break than five NBA teams.
The record was set before the merger of the ABA (American Basketball Association) and the NBA into a single league, something that everyone knows to this day. It is noteworthy that since that time no one has been able to come close to Wilt’s achievement. However, in recent NBA history, the record for most consecutive double-doubles belongs to Kevin Love, who tallied 53 double-doubles while playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Now Love’s record is about to fall, because Domantas Sabonis, son of Soviet legend Arvydas Sabonis, repeated Kevin’s achievement. In the game against Orlando Magic, one of the leaders of the Sacramento Kings scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, thus equaling Love in the number of double-doubles in a row.

Sacramento Kings: Fox – 31, Murray – 22, Sabonis – 21, Ellis – 19, Barnes – 9, Duarte – 5, Mitchell – 2, Monk, McGee, Edwards, Slawson, Jones, Lazy
Sacramento head coach Mike Brown couldn’t help but talk about this matter, and after the game against Orlando he said the following: “Obviously, this is a big, big accomplishment for Domantas. But everything went well for him: 14 rebounds and 21 points.”
If Sabonis manages to record a double-double in the game against the Philadelphia 76ers, which will be played on March 26, he will become the only record holder in this indicator after the merger of the ABA with the NBA. At the same time, Domantas is averaging almost a triple-double this regular season: 20.0 points, 13.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists.
The contribution of the Lithuanian basketball player to the Sacramento game is visible to the naked eye and the statistics only confirm it. What can we say, if the “kings” made it to the playoffs last season for the first time since 2006, this fact already means a lot. It is clear that Sabonis plays alongside a very high quality point guard, De’Aaron Fox, with whom he generates an enormous amount of points and free throws for his teammates. In general, we are waiting for March 26 and the fall of Love’s record.
