The 19-year-old tennis player has already spent eight hours on the courts of the US Open.
Tatyana Prozorova (née Barkova) is so far the only one of Russia’s nine tennis qualifiers to have reached the base of the US Open – 2023. She may be accompanied by the complete opposite: the more experienced Vera Zvonareva. But she has not yet played the final of the preliminary phase. Racket number 229 in the world will make her debut in the Grand Slam tournament, going around the qualifier three times and spending eight hours on it; only the final match with former top 30 Tamara Zidansek lasted longer than three.
Road to first base at TBS
On the way to the TBSH debut, Tanya beat two more experienced Belarusian tennis players; the girl had never gotten this far. First, Yulia Gotovko was unlucky, on whom Tanya hung the “shuttle” in the third installment, and then the 26-year-old racket number 162 in the world, Irina Shimanovich: the three-set match also ended in victory for the Russian. woman – 6:3, 5:7, 7:5. In the final, Prozorova faced WTA number 119 from Slovenia, Tamara Zidansek, who was once in the top thirty.

Prozorova attacked powerfully from behind, and Zidansek deftly used shots along the line as they reached the first tie-break, each giving away their serve. But even here the penalty shootout dragged on: short plays often ended with direct kicks: Tanya did not wait for her opponent’s mistake, confidently went to the ball and shot backhand along the line. But biting winners were often replaced by unforced errors in the net when hitting from the left, and aces (double) for annoyance, the girl even threw rackets. In the tie-break it was not possible to create a pleasant advantage, so in just 1 hour and 40 minutes Tatyana regained the tie with 7:6 (11).
After an emotional and physical rise, a recession followed. In Tanya’s game, this was reflected in the passive game in the second set, which the Russian gave up without a fight for 3:6 in 40 minutes. And the third match practically repeated the scenario of the initial: long kicks to the legs under the back, short to the crown, which the Slovenian reached with great difficulty, and a large number of unforced errors on both sides. And again a tie-break, which meant Prozorova’s victory in 3 hours and 40 minutes and her entry into the first round of debut at the Slams.
“The first match was a bit exciting, because there was a big break between the tournaments. I am very glad that we managed to meet. All three games were difficult. The second was interrupted overall due to rain on several occasions. The match against Zidansek was about freedom, about character: whoever survives wins. I am really looking forward to the first match at the base of the Slam debut on my favorite surface. Now I am doing all the recovery procedures, “Tatiana told” More “after entering the main draw.
From the second thousand to the third hundred
In the first round of the US Open, the girl worked her way up to the 229th racket in the world. A victory at the start can bring you 10 points, in the second round – 70. This will allow you to set a rating record. In 2021 she was ranked 1277 and a year later she hit the circuit: she won 43 games and 16 losses during the season. Furthermore, she was equally effective on both hard and clay courts. She took the first trophies on clay and began to gradually move up: she clinched two ITF titles: 15 km in Kazakhstan and Turkey. She also had 25km series finals in Sharm el-Sheikh and Istanbul, one of which she lost to compatriot Polina Kudermetova.
