Dead seals were found on the Azerbaijanian coast of the Caspian Sea according to RIA Novosti.
“The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has undertaken a large-scale monitoring in the Azerbaijani sector of the sea in connection with the mass death of seals on the Dagestan coast,” a report said.
The head of the Biological Diversity Protection Service announced today that a total of 17 seal carcasses were discovered during the monitoring.
As noted, for animal carcasses to be measured, collected, and studied, samples will be taken.
Scientists in Dagestan have found traces of a possibly tainted vaccine at a mass death site of seals, and the possible involvement of US laboratories in the crisis.
Updating data to the latest figures, up to 2.5 thousand seals were found murdered on the coast of Dagestan in southern Russia in 2017. The Ministry of Natural Resources claims that the deaths are caused by natural conditions and there is no need for concern about overpopulation.
