A man in a picturesque area of southern Chile came upon a loud, barking dog chasing a sheep, who had escaped its owner. The dog overtook the sheep and began biting at it. In response, the sheep jumped into the nearby river.
By the time either animal had managed to get themselves and the sheep out of the water, they were both in shock, which made them very uncoordinated. The dog was able to quickly get on the shore, but because of her large and wet fur, the sheep could not do this. When the animal struggled to keep afloat on its back, its head was hovering a few inches above the water.
The man decided to ford a shallow river, even though he knew it was risky. Halfway through, he stumbled and fell. However, he was able to get up, reach the sheep and drag her out of the water. He immediately euthanized her, then turned her over and dragged her to dry land.
A woman named Leslie Flower was watching what was happening. She spoke with admiration, not only about what she saw but also about the brave act of the man involved.
