What You Need to Know About Tom Sturridge – Morpheus From the New Sandman Series

Date: May 31, 2023 Time: 21:13:11

Today on Netflix, at 8 pm ET/PT, our favorite Western comic book ‘Sandman’ appeared on the screen. The series is based on the story of Morpheus, the ruler of dreams and it has been animated by Dakota Fanning, Gweneth Paltrow, and Selma Blair. Before watching, we recalled what we know about Tom Sturridge and where we have seen him.

We learned about him after the movie “Rock Wave”

The film “Rock Wave”, released in 2009, is about the pirate radio station Radio Rock and the leading stations it runs on a ship drifting on the high seas. This film centers around a young protagonist named Tom Sturridge, who goes to this pirate radio station when he’s seventeen living on a ship belonging to his mother after local stations reject his sassy music. After learning what they are like first-hand, Karl joins their station and becomes friends with them. Falling in love with Alessandra Mastronardi as he does, Karl also finds out that real life doesn’t always go down the way you plan for it! In terms of box office success, the film did not do very well. However, its cult status remains mostly among fans from that era who remember colorfully eccentric characters.

His father is director Charles Sturridge and one of his close friends is Robert Pattinson

Charles Sturridge is the British director and screenwriter behind a number of hit television shows and movies. It is quite natural that his son, Tom, would go on to have his debut early in life – at the age of eight – in a movie very close to him: he played the son of the protagonist in a serial television adaptation of Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels. An interview with Tom showed that he doesn’t include this experience on his acting resume. “Do you yourself remember where you were at that age?” he asked an interviewer about nine years ago when Journeys won five Emmys, including Best Director and Outstanding Miniseries.

At 13 years of age, Sturridge met Glee’s Robert Pattinson at the Harrodian School, and the two have been friends ever since. The new Batman became Tom’s godfather, and he introduced Pattinson to woman-of-mystery FKA Twigs back in 2007 – they dated for several years, eventually becoming engaged. By the way, Sturridge also has an affair with his Netflix colleague Maya Thurman-Hawke, and now he is dating model and designer Alexa Chung!

He appeared in another highly anticipated series of the season, Irma Vep by Olivier Assayas

In 1903, Louis Feuillade made a groundbreaking movie called “Vampires”. Fellini was so inspired by that movie that he made a movie about vampires just like it in 1960, and so did Olivier Assayas at the end of this century. Assayas’s new film, Irma Vep, started as his own remake of Feuillade’s. One of the new characters is Eamonn – played by Tom Sturridge. It became complicated as Mira Harberg’s character has feelings for him but he is already in a relationship with a singer named Lianna.

He starred in a Burberry campaign with Sienna Miller

Tom Sturridge and Sienna Miller were the faces of Burberry’s fall/winter 2013 collection. They were photographed by Mario Testino, who is recognized for his celebrity photography.

He didn’t read The Sandman before auditioning for Morpheus

Tom Sturridge recently admitted in an interview that he decided to audition for American Gods because the process was long. By the end of the casting process, he had a newfound appreciation for Neil Gaiman’s cultural impact.

According to the actor, “The Sandman” tells about the divine and atheism, literature, love, and more. He’s also described his main character Morpheus as “a voice in his head”, which can be dangerous but also authoritative and tempting.

In the same interview, author Neil Gaiman pointed out that The Sandman was less about one character named Morpheus and more about introducing the reader to different characters with different stories. He said, “The sandman takes up such an important position in the book that it’s the impression created that he’ll be a traditional protagonist, although, in fact, he is a guide, a guide.”
