Commentator Dmitry Guberniev spoke about the performance of Russian athletes on the international stage against the background of a possible invitation to the 2023 Asian Games.
“Athletes have to perform. Although we are now discussing a possible participation in the Asian Games, it is not clear in which state we will go to the Olympic Games later… From my point of view, we will not go anywhere. Those people who somehow manage to use their best years in sports, even if not in the Russian national team, this is their right. From the point of view of the transitions, I expected more mass, but we don’t see this,” Match TV quotes Guberniev as saying.
The invitation to the Asian Games is subject to the IOC decision on admission to the Olympic Games.
Remember that at the Asian Games, Russian athletes will have to compete in a neutral state and will not be eligible to receive competition medals. However, the athletes will be able to participate in the selection for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Asian Games are scheduled to be held in China from September 23 to October 8, 2023.
