Ovi is one of the best strikers in history. Apparently, he actually got a tattoo of the words Gretzky.
The off-season is the best time to compile all kinds of qualifications. In addition to those tops that are associated with specific events at specific points of time, there are also, so to speak, eternal ones. The Russian captain of the Washington Capitals, Alexander Ovechkin, got into one of these ratings.

Alexander Ovechkin, also known as The Big Eight. Since he joined the NHL in 2005, scoring goals has become his middle name. In his debut season, Ovi swept the league with 54 goals in 81 games. He then had a slight slump in his second season – if you can call it that: in the 2006/2007 campaign, when he scored just 46 goals. In all, he has had nine 50+ goal seasons and only one season in which Ovechkin scored less than 30. Alex is a pure natural shooter. He is just what he does.
When he doesn’t score with his patented click, he destroys the guys up front. As of this writing, he has a career-high 3,471 hits to his credit. This means that he consistently racks up over 200 power moves in a season. Players should definitely keep their heads up when he’s on the ice.

Many people wonder why Ovi scores so many goals. And not just because of its deadly cast and boundless creativity. He shoots from everywhere and always hits the target. Ovechkin is consistently in the top or top five in the league in shot count. In fact, he never had a season in which he made fewer than 300 shots. Gretzky said, “You absolutely miss the shots you don’t take.” Ovechkin must have tattooed these words somewhere on his body, because he tries to adhere to this principle.
Surprisingly, Ovechkin has a chance to usurp Gretzky’s all-time goalscoring record.
Ovechkin, Gretzky and Howe on the same line would be a disaster for any opposing team’s goaltender and defense. Two-generation snipers who can interact with the greatest player of all time. They probably scored a goal on almost every turn. Gretzky certainly had his fair share of talented linemates, but with those two on the flanks, he would have had fertile days.

Does Ovechkin deserve to be included in this rating? Definitely! Does it deserve a place in the top three? There are still doubts. However, it is a joy to realize that an athlete is capable of achieving such recognition during his career.
