In Russia, the situation with the incidence of measles has become more complicated. Since the beginning of the year, more than 3.7 thousand cases have been registered in 63 regions. Of these, 82.6 percent were laboratory confirmed. In 87.7 percent of cases, those who have not been vaccinated get sick. The vast majority of these people at some point refused to be vaccinated.
Measles is the most contagious of infectious diseases. It is dangerous for its complications, which include laryngitis and tracheobronchitis, pneumonia, inflammation of the middle ear. As complications of measles, croup, encephalitis, myocarditis are possible. In especially severe cases, hearing loss, blindness, and mental retardation may develop. Measles can cause death and disability.
People who have not been vaccinated against measles remain highly susceptible to the disease throughout their lives and can become ill at any age. In adults, this disease is much more serious than in children. The only effective measure against measles is immunization.
