The Popular Party has accused the President of the Government and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, of having lied in the ‘face to face’ debate with Alberto Núñez Feijóo with the tolls on the highways from the year 2024, after the director of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), Pere Navarro, ensure that this payment system “by imposition of Brussels” will be implemented.
The general secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, has accused Sánchez of lying and leaving the tolls on the highways “as an inheritance”. “What Sánchez did not want to recognize in the face-to-face with Feijóo, is recognized by the Director General of Traffic. Sanchismo leaves with lies and leaves tolls on the highways as an inheritance,” he criticized in a message on the social network Twitter, collected by Europa Press.
The PP’s Deputy Secretary for Institutional Action, Esteban González Pons, has spoken along the same lines. “What was Pedro Sánchez saying, that it was a lie that he had agreed to reintroduce tolls on the highways? Well, his general director of Traffic seems to disagree. The liar is caught first…”, he has also assessed in a publication by Twitter.
The PP has recorded a fragment of the debate last Monday in which the ‘popular’ leader asked Sánchez if his Executive had decided to charge a toll on all highways in Spain from 2024. “Are you going to pass the free highways a toll?”, questioned the leader of the PP. “But what does Mr. Feijóo say?” Replied the socialist leader.
After the statements by Navarro (DGT)
Subsequently, the DGT has regretted the confusion generated after the statements by its director, Pere Navarro, in which he has assured that the Spanish highways will implement tolls in the year 2024 “by imposition of Brussels” and has specified that the body does not have ” no type of direct information or powers attributed to be able to pronounce” on this matter.
