Centralized deliveries of updated field uniforms to Russian troops participating in the special operation have begun. “KP” turned to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation with a request to talk about the new “suit of front-line soldiers”, how they made such a decision, how the old uniform differs from the new one.
And here are the responses we received from the military department.
SURVEYS IN EXCAVATIONS
– How did you come up with the idea of doing something new for the wrestlers?
– From the very beginning, the SVO and the leadership of the Ministry of Defense, and our logistics specialists regularly visited the troops and listened to the opinions of soldiers and officers on the quality of the uniforms. There were many, as they say, proposals and requests that came from life.
All of them were systematized and reported to the top. As a result, the Minister of Defense decided to provide additional personnel with field uniforms and footwear. First of all, the fighters on the contact line.
– Well, how was the minister’s order fulfilled?
– We started with the development of new field uniforms and footwear. Our specialists in trenches and dugouts, in combat positions, conducted surveys of fighters, studied their opinions – what kind of field uniform was needed.
The main thing was to make such changes to the uniforms that would allow people to comfortably perform combat missions.
And as a result, requirements for improving uniforms and footwear were developed and approved. And this work does not stop even today.

TO TRANSPORT WITH ARMORED PROTECTION
– And how is this new uniform different from the field uniform of the previous generation?
– One of the main features of the updated uniform is its maximum integration to wear bulletproof vests and combat gear. Hats, summer caps, and insulated hats have also become more comfortable. They do not cause discomfort when used with armored helmets.
Chest and sleeve pockets have become convenient and accessible when wearing body armor. Joint protection is integrated into the elbows and knees. The fabric has increased tensile strength and vapor permeability.
A new element has been introduced into the composition of the summer suit – a combat shirt designed to be worn in the heat.

The new uniform is made in an anatomical cut and in camouflage colours. Shades of colors – seven. This makes it possible to expand the masking properties both by seasons (spring-summer-autumn) and by types of terrain: forested, swampy, steppe, forest-steppe, mountain-forest, mountain-desert, etc.
The new field uniform is even lighter. And more comfortable in any weather. It retains its protective properties even after prolonged exposure to snow and rain.
The new field form uses the stratification principle. This allows you to combine its different elements depending on the weather and the combat mission.

– How do the fighters on the front line evaluate the new form?
– We receive positive feedback. And we listen carefully to the new wishes and claims of people. We continue to improve the uniforms.

Non-slip boots, with microclimate
– With jackets, pants and shirts, of course. And what about the shoes?
– Shoes have changed for the better both externally and in quality. There are more types of it. The participants of the special operation receive winter boots, demi-season boots, summer boots, sports shoes and insulated rubber boots.
All shoes have non-slip soles and self-cleaning deep soles. The upper layer of the sole is made of a special lightweight material of higher density; this is necessary for the strength of the frame. Inner lining (except shoes) with high resistance to abrasion and rapid moisture absorption. The boots have a multilayer waterproof membrane, which at the same time has increased breathability. This provides a microclimate inside the shoe, all-weather protection and comfort.

And insulated rubber boots are not only lighter than ordinary ones, but they also feature anti-puncture insoles that protect against stab and cut injuries to the feet.

There were many complaints about problems with the form at the beginning of the CBO. Most importantly, it just wasn’t enough then. It was not the right size, it was uncomfortable, not suitable for the season. Also, it was torn and dirty. It’s one thing – an army uniform in peacetime, another – intense combat operations, when issued for several months (according to the rules, for half a year), camouflage becomes unusable in a week of raids and creeping from trench to trench.
Later, this problem was solved thanks to the joint efforts of the Ministry of Defense, the volunteers and the fighters themselves, who bought new clothes in the military store. As a result, many on the front lines wear uniforms of different cuts and colors, sometimes even in NATO trophy uniforms. Sometimes it is impossible to distinguish your fighters from the enemy in appearance, only white and red ribbons on the arms and legs save the situation (they are blue and yellow in the Armed Forces of Ukraine).
The fact that the command has taken the issue of uniforms seriously is good news.
Of the novelties, as a military commissar and in the past a volunteer who managed to fight near Popasna and Soledar in the fall of 2022, I will especially point out the following:
Knee and elbow pads
– Integrated protection on knees and elbows. Because the knee and elbow pads with elastic bands, like skates (and I had to put them on like this), often get lost, slip, rub against the folds.
– It’s good that they began to take into account that bulletproof vests are usually worn over the uniform, and after several hours (or even days) of continuous use of the armor, the seams, pockets and buttons cause discomfort.

– Special thanks for the waterproof and breathable shoes (whether this holds true in practice remains to be seen!).
– And for the hard insoles that protect the sole. There is nothing more stupid than “trehsotit” (rattling in the hospital) because of an ordinary nail or a sharp fragment underfoot.
