Lokomotiv achieved their fifth consecutive victory and CSKA broke a terrible losing streak.

In the 32nd minute, the hosts took the lead thanks to the efforts of Alexander Petunin, who scored a double. Just over 30 seconds later, forward Nikita Grebenkin reinforced Magnitogorsk’s lead. In the last minute Pavel Akolzin sent the puck into an empty goal (4:1).

The score of the match was opened in the second minute by the red-and-white striker Maxim Tsyplakov, and then, in the middle of these twenty minutes, Dmitry Vishnevsky doubled the advantage. Vityaz hockey players were able to reduce the gap thanks to the efforts of Scott Wilson on the power play in the first period.

In the second half, Tsyplakov himself restored Spartak’s two-goal lead and Ansel Galimov made the score 4:1. However, Alexey Zhamnov’s team could not maintain this advantage: they later lost three goals in a row, scored by Alexander Yaremchuk, Vladislav Tsitsyura, who also scored a hat-trick (1+3), and Ruslan Pedan.

In extra time, Vityaz’s victory was brought by forward Ivan Savchik, who scored 3 (1+2) points in this match.

Despite the epic failure in Balashikha, Spartak finished the calendar year in first place in the KHL standings. As the KHL press service notes, for the first time in the history of the league the leader at the end of the calendar year of the start of the championship will be a team that did not make it to the playoffs the previous season.
