The Albanian footballer scored in the 23rd minute!
Before the second day of Euro 2024, it seemed that there was not much intrigue in the last match. Italy is the current European champion and Albania is a clear outsider. But the start of the game was spectacular.
The referee whistled the start and the Albanians advanced. The timer shows 23 seconds and the ball enters the Italian goal after a shot by Nedim Bajrami. Albanian footballers and fans are ecstatic and the main question is whether the goal was a record.
And he did! Nobody had ever scored in the first minute of a game. The previous record holder is Russian Dmitry Kirichenko. 20 years ago, at Euro 2004, the forward converted a one-on-one in a match against Greece, when the stopwatch read 1.07.

A crazy start for Italy in the Euro Cup! In the 23rd second we conceded a goal and we were already ahead! LIVE
By the way, after Bairami’s goal, the Italians responded with two goals. And fast too. Here again there is a record: for the first time in the history of the Euro, the teams scored three goals in 16 minutes. Iceland and England needed 18 minutes in 2016.
Who is Bayrami anyway?
Nedim, like many of his compatriots, did not receive his football education in his homeland. And even he was born in another country: Switzerland. In Zurich he started in the youth category and, after two and a half years in the adult category with Grasshopper, he went to Italy, first on loan and then permanently. In total, Empoli paid 800 thousand euros for the boy. According to the same scheme, Bajrami arrived in Sassuolo. Six months in the new team were enough for the club to pay 6 million euros for the transfer in the summer of 2023.

Bajrami’s first season at Sassuolo turned out decent. The 25-year-old attacking midfielder played 28 games in Serie A (1,311 minutes in total) and scored 4 (2+2) points in the goal+pass system.
