“A warning has been issued by the regional operational headquarters: special vehicles are circulating on all streets of the town,” the Krasnodar Territory operational headquarters reported.
It was noted that a rather strong wind is complicating the situation in the forest area near Novorossiysk.
“The flames are heading towards Durso. People are asked to prepare things in advance in case of evacuation,” the operations centre reported.
As RG has already reported, an emergency response headquarters will be deployed at the site of the fire near Novorossiysk in Sukhaya Shchal. It was headed by Vice-Governor Alexander Nesterenko, who arrived in the city.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, by 8:00 p.m. the area of the fire had already exceeded 51 hectares. The fire cannot be controlled due to strong winds.
The fire was extinguished by specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, firefighters, Cossacks and volunteers – more than 250 people in total. 76 pieces of equipment were used, including aircraft.
On Sunday evening, the attack spread to the local recreation centres Sailor, Romantic and Frigate. Tourists from there were evacuated in advance (as well as from two other nearby bases, Energetik and Stroitel).
According to the authorities, 8 houses and 4 cars were burned down on the territory of the Blue Wave recreation centre. However, there was no damage at the Fregat recreation centre: only vegetation was damaged.
It is noted that there is a risk of further spread of the fire, which is now advancing towards the Durso farm.
“If the fire cannot be located, the evacuation of the population is not ruled out. A state of emergency has been declared in the territory of the hero city due to the landscape fires,” the press service said.
