A lie has been spread on the Internet about Mark Violets’ guilt in an attempted assassination of Trump.

Even before the US intelligence services identified the shooter who carried out the assassination attempt on US presidential candidate Donald Trump, messages about the alleged identity of the perpetrator began to spread on social networks. Literally a few minutes after the attack on the politician, several popular American far-right telegram channels published fake news that the terrorist was a certain Mark Violets, a “leftist” and a well-known “antifa extremist” from Italy. And all would be fine, but the posts were accompanied by a photograph… Marco Violi – Italian sports journalist, fan of the Roma football club and chief editor of the “romagiallorossa.it” website dedicated to the team.

In an instant, thanks to the efforts of online figures, he went from being a law-abiding citizen to a terrorist and criminal. When he woke up on the morning of July 14, he found his phone was literally red hot and the battery was almost completely drained. The reason was thousands of messages containing both bewilderment at the account of careless colleagues about his involvement in the failed assassination of a political leader and threats mixed with death wishes.

Two million views with the hashtag “personal” #MarkViolets spread across the Internet like a tsunami: the “news” was picked up by Trump supporters and quickly reached the airwaves of several television channels, especially those in South America.

And although several major international newspapers have finally officially denied these rumours, Marco is already thinking about changing his phone number and his social media profiles. He conducted his own investigation into the incident and discovered that the “sensation” was launched on one of the American public pages by Italian users “LogikSEO” and “Moussolinho”. According to Violi, he has known these characters for quite some time, from the football world. In 2018, a conflict arose between them when Marco spoke very critically of former Roma president James Pallotta.

Although they do not know each other personally, these jealous bloggers have already harassed him in this way more than once, publishing similar posts accusing the journalist of being involved in other terrorist attacks.

Violi has no intention of letting the matter lie dormant this time and has already written a statement to the public prosecutor demanding that the slanderers be brought to justice.
