Vice President Kamala Harris said on Monday that she has secured enough verbal commitments from delegates to the upcoming Democratic National Convention to secure the presidential nomination. What are the chances of Harris and Donald Trump succeeding in the presidential election? This was told to KP by Pavel Podlesny, head of the Center for Russian-American Relations at the Institute of the United States and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
– Who has the best chance of winning the November elections?
“If nothing happens to Trump, if there are no more attempts on his life, then he should win,” says Pavel Podlesny. “I don’t believe in Kamala Harris’ victory.” It is not yet clear who the Democrats will choose as their vice-presidential candidate; several candidates are being named, including such unexpected ones as the ex-president’s wife, Michelle Obama. It seems to me that there are now many conditions in favour of the Republicans.
– Which?
– First of all, they are united, united. No one questions Trump’s candidacy anymore. Perhaps some in the party don’t like him, but he has become the undisputed leader of the Republicans.
Secondly, even though the assassination attempt on Trump occurred long before the election, he will remain the image of a political hero, who was deprived not only of the opportunity to be elected, but also of life itself.
Thirdly, the Democrats cannot boast of anything outstanding in either foreign or domestic policy.
And finally, Kamala Harris’s personality: it is not known how she will campaign, make speeches and attract the public to her side. There is not enough time to promote her candidacy on a large scale. She has not proven herself as a vice president.
Yes, she has the unique advantage of being the first woman of color to run for president of the country. But this may not be enough. So I think the advantage is on the side of Trump and the Republicans.
