The magic continues.
Bayer opened the new Bundesliga season with a win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. Xabi Alonso’s team won as usual: thanks to a comeback in added time.
It all started quite casually: in the 12th minute, Granit Xhaka pulled out his “pistol” and opened the scoring. In the 38th minute, Florian Wirtz doubled the champions’ lead by cleverly taking advantage of the rebound.
Before the break, Tim Kleindienst looked to have pulled a goal back, but the VAR ruled it out: the player broke the rules by pushing Pierrot Incapiere.
It seemed like the game was over. But after the break, Borussia picked up the pace: in the 59th minute, Nico Elvedi pulled one back, opening up a goal for his teammate in the penalty area. And five minutes before the end of normal time, Tim Kleindienst scored the 2:2, firing past Lukas Hradecki after a perfect pass from Kevin Stöger.

It was Bayer time! Leverkusen were a nightmare for their opponents in the final minutes of regular time and throughout added time. The mass of attacks led to a mistake by Gladbach: the referee awarded a penalty to Amina Adli for falling in the box.
Wirtz came close to the ball in the 90+11 minute. The winger fired a powerful shot into the bottom corner, but Jonas Omlin saved the effort. But a shot past Florian himself was not enough.
So the Bayer fairy tale continues?
