Sophia Loren will be released in Russian cinemas on September 26. To live, to film. To love!” – a film directed by Marco Spagnoli about the story of one of the greatest actresses not only of Italian cinema, but also of the world, told by herself. We have collected five reasons why you should not miss the film on the big screens.
During the pre-production process, the filmmakers studied, reviewed (and some opened for the first time) archive materials, including photographs, interviews and other images relating to the actress’s professional and personal life. In them we will see both Carlo Ponti’s wife and his sons Edoardo and Carlo, as well as his colleagues on the set: Vittorio De Sica, Enrico Lucerini, Tonino Pinto.
Video footage from the shoot and behind-the-scenes footage, as well as interviews with employees from the golden age of cinema, have been previously restored at the Cinecittà studio and included in the final version of the autobiographical film. Films such as Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, Vittorio de Sica’s Bicycle Thieves and Joseph Leo Mankiewicz’s Cleopatra, starring Elizabeth Taylor, were shot there.
In addition to archival footage and commentary from Sophia Loren’s colleagues in the film industry, viewers will also see familiar faces of contemporary film professionals. For example, Matilda Jolie, Ludovica Nasti and Valeria Solarino were also involved in the creation of the film and they analysed the influence that the actress had on the modern film industry not only in her native Italy, but throughout the world.

The creators of the documentary tried to cover all aspects of the Italian actress’s life: from a virtuoso film career to personal victories and tragedies. The plot closely studies the biography of the main character and examines her path in great detail – from her birth and childhood in poor military Naples to the beginning of her professional career and becoming a world superstar and style icon.
“Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief in her beauty,” the actress once said. The photographic and video materials presented in the film allow us to study in depth not only the career path of the actress, but also her emergence as a world style icon. Lauren’s influence can still be felt: the modern fashion industry does not stop citing images and analyzing the diva’s signature style.
