Marco de Vincenzo’s show yesterday revolved around the agave, a plant that flowers only once before going to seed and dying. The agaves, presented on a cast iron and concrete catwalk, have great meaning for the designer, as they grow along the Mediterranean coast and remind him of home. “I am from the south and that is where my heart is. Sicily is my homeland, but I feel connected to places like Andalusia, Seville and Greece.” And it (the agave) is a symbol of rebirth, because “when it dies, it makes room for something new.” This, according to the creative director of Etro, is a metaphor for the endless cycle of fashion.
But if we talk about the collection itself, it was rather dedicated specifically to the South, but without any specific connection to the place. We saw cropped sweaters with bows on the chest and hoods, which were worn with floor-length silk skirts, painted according to all the canons of the genre: paisley; transparent dresses, which are a mix of a swimsuit and a sequined evening skirt; flared jeans and “robe”; leather jackets and boho-style dresses; bomber jackets embroidered with bugles and “nets” in the form of a grid over blouses, skirts and dresses. On her feet she wears flip-flops with heels and over-the-knee boots. The musical accompaniment is a live track by the Sardinian singer and musician Daniela Pes.
