“We said that we want to hold a meeting with Bashar al-Assad in order to normalize relations between Turkey and Syria. Now we are waiting for an appropriate response from that side,” the Turkish leader said.
According to him, Ankara is ready for negotiations at the level of heads of state.
As Erdogan said, Türkiye wants to establish solidarity and unity between the two countries and their peoples.
“I hope that this will happen thanks to such a meeting,” Erdogan added.
As noted by the Kremlin, the normalization of relations between Damascus and Ankara is important both for the continuation of the political settlement of the Syrian conflict and for stability in the entire region.
According to Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, the possibility of facilitating the organization of certain contacts between Turkish and Syrian representatives at various levels is still on the agenda.
