This is a bill submitted to the State Duma in February this year. According to the authors of the document, circuses do not always fulfill their responsibilities regarding the proper care and maintenance of animals.
“The problem raised is correct, but it must be resolved… consequently, by tightening the screws in the circuses so that the demands to have animals in them increase more and more,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
Burmatov noted that currently the number of animals involved in circus performances has decreased considerably and fewer wild animals are used. The percentage of rooms with pets has decreased: it is now less than 30 percent.
Systematic work in this direction is giving positive results and will continue, the deputy stated.
It is important not to ignore the facts when there are violations and cruelty to animals, Burmatov added.
