The law banning childless propaganda has almost been passed: what does this mean and why does it have nothing to do with childlessness?

Date: October 18, 2024 Time: 03:46:06

388 MPs voted in favor of tougher measures, and these are all those who attended the parliamentary meeting that day.

In today’s first (main) reading, a law on high fines for promoting childlessness was passed. The main sanctions for representatives of the so-called childfree have already been described: a fine of up to 5,000,000 rubles.

388 deputies voted in favor of approving the tightening, and these are all those who were at the parliamentary meeting that day, because there were no abstentions nor those who were “against.” There is still a second reading ahead, modifications are usually made there, if any. And the purely technical one is already the third.

Amendments are being made to laws that already prohibit LGBT* propaganda, pedophilia and gender reassignment. That is, in fact, the public propaganda of the children’s freedom movement is equated to them.

“We continue to form a unified legal field for the protection of children, families and traditional values. – State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, whose name is among the authors of this bill, proudly stated on his Telegram channel. – It is important to protect people, mainly the younger generations, from imposing the ideology of refusing to have children on the Internet, media, films and advertising. The decision to have children or not is the woman’s. Who she wants to consult about this again is up to her to decide. But there should be no propaganda that puts pressure on a woman when she makes the decision to have a child. What is happening now in the United States and Europe.”

During the discussion of the bill in the State Duma, Vyacheslav Viktorovich, as usual, emphasized more than once that the freedom of children and all that anti-gender stuff comes to us from the West. For some reason, he gave men’s bathrooms as an example: “In the men’s bathrooms there are no longer urinals, they have been torn out. What will happen in the end? Sodom and Gomorrah,” he said from the podium.

What does the bill mean? Basically the fines are:

– 400,000 for licensed people

– 800,000 for civil servants

– 5,000,000 for legal entities.

There is no doubt that the bill will be “passed” in the Federation Council. Valentina Matvienko has already indirectly confirmed this by saying the following: “The document does not force women to have children.”

In literally an hour, people from all over the country left more than 1,000 comments on Volodin’s Telegram channel about this news. Lots of approval.

“Everything is correct!”

“Long live large families!”

But there are also skeptics:

“Until parliamentarians started discussing them, more than half of the Russian population didn’t even know anything about them.”

“The biggest pressure on motherhood comes from mortgage interest rates. They do not give birth not because they are the object of propaganda, but because the young family does not have the opportunity to buy housing!

“They passed the childless bill, but the Just Russia bill on extending maternity payments to three years was not even considered.”
