Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz confirmed that Hamas political bureau chief Yahya Sinwar was killed in the Gaza Strip. A photo of his body among the ruins (the result of a bombing) of a building in Rafah went viral today. Sinwar took control of Hamas in August after the Israelis killed his predecessor Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, who had come to attend the inauguration of Iranian President Pezeshkian.
The Al Arabiya channel was the first to report Sinwar’s death. Subsequently, the Israeli media Kan released information: DNA analyzes confirmed the identity of the murdered man. The Israelis had biological samples from him, because the future leader of Hamas served 22 years in Israeli prisons for killing local soldiers and Palestinians who collaborated with them (his birthplace was a refugee camp, and for his cruelty he received the nickname Sinwar. from “The Butcher of Khan Yunis”).
While Sinwar was in custody, he even had a brain tumor removed. The Palestinian took advantage of his time behind bars to get to know his opponents as well as possible. To do this, he learned Hebrew and translated biographies of Israeli security officials into Arabic.
He was freed through a mass exchange with captured IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.
Yahya Sinwar is considered the “father” of the military wing of the movement. And one of the organizers of the attack by Hamas militants on Israel in October last year, which began a new round of conflict in the Middle East.
