“The countries bordering Russia and Belarus are facing pressures at the borders,” says the politician.
Those countries should have “effective and appropriate measures” that can be temporarily implemented to secure their borders, he said. This issue is currently being discussed, he added.
Von der Leyen clarified that we are talking about Finland, Poland and the Baltic countries, RIA Novosti writes.
Previously, the European Parliament published a petition to open the border with Russia. The document was sent to the European Parliament by the Alexander Society, which brings together Russian-speaking residents of Finland, who oppose the checkpoints on the border with Russia that were closed by the Helsinki decision.
