Singer Shura, popular in the 90s, appeared as a guest on the main “blue” stage of the VK FEST festival in the capital’s Luzhniki Park. After his performance, the artist opened up to journalists. Shura spoke about complexes and star fever, recalled how he lived in the 90s and lost his temper, starting a conversation about people who complain about the present time.
—What complexes and shortcomings did you have to overcome to become who you are today?
– I’m still struggling. With complexes, with shortcomings. And you know, this is probably the essence of human life. Fight against complexes and fight against shortcomings, look for something in yourself, find something, be happy about something. Thank God when you wake up in the morning.
It’s good that we have complexes and defects, otherwise it would be boring. Everyone would be perfect and would hit themselves on the head. It’s good that there are complexes.
— In one of the programs you said that in the elegant nineties you had to act behind a cage. This grid was recommended to you by Larisa Dolina.
— Larisa, one of those… Guys, in the nineties they threw bottles and cans. Listen, we lived so well and had so much fun, and everyone drank. Once they broke my head with a Zippo lighter. The girl threw it, wanted to give it to me, and it pierced my head. Well, that’s how it was in the nineties. And everyone did it. Now those who did a bad job can remain silent and not talk. Yes, we hung a net in front of the stage, small, because people threw cans and bottles. Not because I didn’t like the artist. We were walking like this.
— Since when did this grid disappear? When did you feel safe?
— In 1998, the net was put up, and in 2001 it was taken down. We only started hiring security and the organization of the concert reached a different level. I mean, there was already a security service and they didn’t let in the party people. Well, there was a net for about five years.
—Have you ever had star fever? How does it manifest?
– It still manifests itself. Star fever is not so bad. There is an American proverb: “I know my worth.” Every person in life should know their own worth. It is bad when exaggeration begins.
—How did you realize you had star fever? Did someone say?
— Oncology said: “Sasha, stop walking, we are going to treat the cancer, right? So that you survive.”
— You just mentioned the nineties. Do you like the time you live in now?
– Of course, this is a wonderful time. If you don’t like the weather, just hit the pavement and go. We have to accept the weather as it comes. Yes, this is amazing, this is how we live now. Yes, I still have a basic Nokia phone. I still have trouble using the iPad. Yes, I still don’t understand how a TV can be so thick.
Yes, it’s us, your grandparents. I’m fifty years old, guys. I’m already a grandfather to all of you.
The main thing is that we live. And the most important thing, I always say, is that we are alive and well, we value health, this is the most important thing.
