On June 29, in the Shoksha Valley, on the picturesque banks of the Sura River, near the village of Grabovo in the Penza region, the traditional ethnocultural festival “Sursky Yar – Shumbrat, Shoksha” was held. The holiday is being celebrated for the fifth time and is dedicated to the friendship of all peoples living in Russia and the Penza region.

The festival brought together masters of folk crafts, herbalists, artists and creative groups from different parts of the Penza region and guests from Moscow, Saratov, Tambov, Nizhny Novgorod regions, the Republic of Mordovia and other regions of Russia.

In a welcoming speech to the participants of the festival “Sursky Yar – Shumbrat, Shoksha!” one of its organizers, deputy chairman of the Sursk community Shoksha Igor Korotkov, noted the special atmosphere of the event:

– The very fact that all the creative groups that appeared on our stage filled the general atmosphere with their beauty and kindness became a real boost for the entire Shoksha Valley – I think that this impulse of harmony spread throughout the world from here. After all, everyone performed with soul, sincerity and great pleasure – this cannot be faked or artificially embellished.

At the Surskie Knights arena, regional sports associations demonstrated folk wrestling techniques and invited everyone to take part in the competition.

The traditional beauty contest of the “Southern Beauty” festival allowed participants of different ages to demonstrate their vocal and choreographic talents and prepare traditional costumes. None of them was left without a gift!

The main event of the festival was a folk concert held at two venues at once. Creative meetings between ethnocultural associations and individual artists took place here.

The Sursky Yar festival has been held in Penza since 2015 and the number of participants and guests is growing every year.
