“After a family in Latvia was stripped of a number of benefits and began receiving threats of deprivation of parental rights, the foreigners decided to leave their country,” the department said in a comment.
The border guards realized the situation of the forced refugees and went to meet them.
“Taking into account the difficult life circumstances that a large family had to face in their own country, Belarus provides them with comprehensive assistance,” they said at the State Border Committee.
It is reported that thanks to the visa-free regime introduced by Minsk, a large family was able to cross the border without wasting time and is now heading to the capital of Belarus on a specially provided bus.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Tatyana Moskalkova, condemned the changes introduced by the Latvian authorities in the conditions for the extension of the temporary residence permit (PR) for Russian-speaking residents. Now, to renew the residence permit, Russians must confirm their knowledge of the Latvian language and fill out a questionnaire about their attitude towards the Northern Military District and the return of Crimea to Russia. Moskalkova called it “bullying and Russophobia.”
