The festival lasts two days and is aimed at promoting chess. It started at the National Museum in Lusaka; the programme included a photo exhibition “Chess Museum”, which Zambian schoolchildren enjoy visiting. Special training was given to students of Russian language courses to conduct tours of the photo exhibition.
In addition, an open lesson on Russian as a foreign language was held on the first day of the celebrations.
“On July 20, the programme will continue with a chess tournament for local fans of the ancient game,” Russkiy Mir reports.
In addition, on the occasion of International Chess Day, the exhibition “Russia on 64 Squares” was opened in Zambia, India and Sri Lanka. It tells of outstanding Soviet and Russian chess players and the influence of the Soviet school on the development of chess in these countries.
