The Russian Ministry of Defence has launched a special project “Bagration’s Victorious Attacks” to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus and Minsk from Nazi troops.
The portal published previously classified documents related to one of the largest strategic operations of the Great Patriotic War. Thanks to it, in 1944 the most powerful group of the Wehrmacht was destroyed, Belarus, most of Lithuania and the eastern regions of Poland were liberated.
The special project includes rare documents from the funds of the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense, which have not been exposed to public access until now. These include directives of the Headquarters of the Supreme High Command (in particular, of May 29, 1944 to the commanders of the front troops on ensuring the secrecy of ongoing activities), a Plan for misinforming the enemy in order to conceal preparations for an offensive and the direction of the main attack of the troops of the 2nd Belorussian Front, an Offensive Operation Plan of the 5th Guards Tank Army of June 20, 1944, reports, orders and much more.
The site “Bagration’s Victorious Strikes” consists of four sections: “Preparation of the Bagration operation”, “Rapid offensive”, “Parade of the defeated”, “They liberated Minsk”. According to the authors of the project, the publication of declassified documents is aimed at protecting historical truth, countering the falsification of history and glorifying the heroic deed of the Soviet people.
