The actor was remembered by Soviet audiences for his role as Sultan Bayezid in the historical drama “Mircea”. He also starred in the films “Burning Mountains”, “Duel”, “We are on the Frontline”, “Crown of Fire”, “The Beginning of Truth”, “The Revenant”, “Poker”.
The actor was born in 1950 in the village of Tarneveni, Mures district, and graduated from the Institute of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography (Bucharest). He served at the National Theatre of Targu Mures.
The theatre expresses its condolences to the actor’s family and friends. “Ion Ritiu was an important actor who stood out both on stage and behind the scenes, giving glory to the Mures Theatre and for this he will be appreciated and remembered forever. May he rest in peace,” the message said.
