Lena Bridge is needed

Russian President Vladimir Putin, opening a meeting on infrastructure development in the Far East, stressed the importance of the construction of the Lena Bridge for the country’s economy.

“We must finally implement the important and long-awaited project to build a bridge across the Lena in the Yakutsk region. Moreover, this is no longer a dead end,” Vladimir Putin stressed.

He highlighted priority projects in the energy sector of the Far Eastern Federal District: the construction of the South Yakutskaya thermal power plant, the increase in the capacity of the Svobodnenskaya thermal power plant in the Amur Region, and the modernization of 270 diesel stations.

Oil and gas boom

Today Yakutia is the most promising oil and gas region in the Far East.

“Today we are installing about 70% of all facilities in Yakutia at the expense of the federal budget. This year we have completed five regional projects. We will announce the results in early November. Next year we will hold auctions. We already believe that there will be a lot of demand for these areas,” said the head of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use, Evgeny Petrov.

Over the past six years, 11 oil and gas deposits have been discovered in Yakutia. The Ministry of Natural Resources is extending the federal project “Geology: Revival of a Legend” until 2030 to carry out geological exploration for hydrocarbons in central and eastern Yakutia, near the Lena river. In the future, this will allow loading the “Eastern Siberia – Pacific Ocean”, “Power of Siberia”, “Power of Siberia-2” oil and gas pipelines and ensuring gasification of cities and industrial centres in Siberia and the Far East.

New deposits

As noted by the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Alexander Kozlov, “geological exploration has shown a significant increase in gold reserves in deposits in Yakutia (+198 tons), the Krasnoyarsk Territory (+55 tons) and the Khabarovsk Territory (+35 tons).”

Promising are tungsten ores in the area of the Agylkinskoye deposit, uranium in the Elkon mineral district, rare earth metals of the Tomtor mineral group in Yakutia (Buranny section of the Tomtorskoye deposit, rare earth metal reserves: 3.2 million tons (11% of the total Russian reserves).

Despite the fact that the Tomtor deposits are richer in terms of mineral quality, their development is hampered by the logistical conditions for the transportation of minerals for processing (5-12 thousand km), as well as the lack of effective and cost-effective enrichment technologies.

Seligdar plans to open a plant at the Khvoinoye deposit in Yakutia in 2025. It is expected to reach production capacity in 2026. The deposit’s remaining reserves are 16.8 tonnes of gold. The Khvoynoye project is planned to build a gold mining plant with a capacity of 3 million tonnes of ore per year.

Pacific Railway

The carrying capacity of the Pacific Railway under construction could be increased 1.7 times in the future to 50 million tons, said First Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Valentin Ivanov.

“In addition to the activities currently being carried out by Russian Railways OJSC (increasing the capacity of the Eastern training ground – IF), in addition to what is currently being built under a turnkey contract with financing from Bamtonnelstroy-Most (MOEX: BTST ) (facilities at the Eastern training ground of Russian Railways – IF), the Elga – Chumikan railway line is still being implemented by private investors – the connection is now being made, the capacity of the line is being very actively built on both sides – 30 million tons, with the prospect of increasing to 50 million tons, (it – IF ) is aimed at transporting coal products towards the Asia-Pacific basin,” he said on Wednesday at a logistics session within the framework of the WEF 2024 Conference.

build more

Half of all housing being built in the Far Eastern Federal District is located in Primorye and Yakutia. These regions are the leaders in the Far East in terms of the share of mortgages issued. Auditor Natalya Trunova noted that this is due, among other things, to the launched economic projects and, on the other hand, to the greater attractiveness of the region itself.

The main result of the FEM

The head of Yakutia, Chairman of the Energy Commission of the State Council Aisen Nikolaev, noted that during the nine years of the EEF, the largest region signed more than 220 agreements on the sidelines of the forum, and their total investments amounted to about 1 trillion rubles.

“Today we see the results of the signed agreements: social, infrastructure and industrial facilities have been built and are being built, residential quarters are being built, public transport is being modernised. These are projects that all Yakut citizens know about, for example, the Sayuri greenhouse complex, the Small Academy of Sciences, the Zvezdny microdistrict and many others. The most important result of the implementation of these projects is the improvement of the life of Yakut residents,” Nikolaev concluded.
