Today at the Satire Theater two meetings of the company took place: first with the now former artistic director Sergei Gazarov, then with the new Evgeniy Gerasimov. To say that for the company of the legendary theater the decision of the Department of Culture personnel was unexpected is to say nothing.
“Sátire” has two anniversaries ahead of it. The theater’s centenary will be celebrated on October 1. July 19 marks the 90th anniversary of Alexander Shirvindt’s birth. Alexander Anatolyevich worked in this theater for more than half a century, for 20 years he was its artistic director, and then its president. Preparations for his 90th birthday began during Alexander Anatolyevich’s lifetime and were not canceled after his departure.
– We have a very difficult year ahead of us. Sergei Ishkhanovich (Gazarov) together with the troupe was preparing for the anniversaries, says People’s Artist of Russia Alena Yakovleva. “That is why the news of his resignation is a surprise.” The locomotive is moving but stops halfway. After all, our Satire Theater is academic, with traditions, with a name, with history… Legendary artists worked here. And now we have very good company. Friendly team, wonderful young people, efficient, without conflicts. But they took us and presented us with a fact. It seems to me that it would be right to talk to the artists first.
When our Satire Theater merged with the Armen Dzhigarkhanyan Theater, it seemed strange to everyone. Actually two different theaters. But in more than two years that we have been working with Sergei Ishkhanovich, we have finally begun to reach a consensus, an understanding in which direction to move forward together. We produce performances and rehearse new ones. And at this moment Sergei Gazarov is removed from office. The locomotive is moving and stops halfway.
With new management
everything will have to start again. I regret that many of the works that were being prepared now have little chance of being carried out.
Evgeny Gerasimov is the artistic director of the Malaya Ordynka Theater (formerly Luna Theater). I have a question: will you now manage three rooms? I would like the new director to take over the legendary Academic Theater of Satire company. Therefore, we, artists, perceive the current situation in a very emotional way.
PS Evgeny Gerasimov, of course, took on a heavy burden. But he is a person with a theater background. After graduating from the Shchukin School, he worked at the Mayakovsky Theater, when the theater was headed by the famous director Andrei Goncharov. Evgeny Gerasimov also performed on the Lenkom stage. For more than 20 years, Evgeniy Vladimirovich has been involved in politics and is the chairman of the Commission on Culture and Mass Communications. He is diplomatic by nature. There is almost no doubt that he will be able to find a common language with the team of the famous Satire Theater. And together they will celebrate the centenary of the legendary theater.
