Anastasia Volochkova filed a lawsuit – the ballerina hopes to prove that she is entitled to a preferential pension. In July 2024, Anastasia Volochkova’s lawsuit was filed with the court and will be registered in the near future. The website KP.RU found out why the 48-year-old ballerina Volochkova demands that the Pension Fund pay her a pension.

Ballet dancers who perform as soloists in ballet, opera and ballet theatres are entitled to an early old-age insurance pension with at least 15 years of experience. Ballerina Volochkova believes that she has this experience, but officially she is missing 6 months of 15 years of work in her work book. And at the beginning of the year, Anastasia told us: “I am suing the Bolshoi Theatre, which falsified my work record book, which is why I am not receiving a pension due to my length of service.” The ballerina is sure that they should have started paying her pension 10 years ago. Volochkova was unable to win the case, so now she is going to sue the organization that should pay her a pension. Anastasia says: at the age of 18 she became a prima ballerina and has been dancing for 30 years. But, apparently, not always under employment contracts.

The chronology of events is as follows. Anastasia began her work experience in 1994 at the Mariinsky Theatre. Having been a prima ballerina at the Mariinsky Theatre, Volochkova moved to the Bolshoi Theatre in 1998. In 2003, Anastasia was fired, but she went to court and proved that the dismissal was illegal. The ballerina says that her dismissal then was the revenge of an influential ex. Volochkova was reinstated at the Bolshoi Theatre, but she was not allowed to dance and began performing with solo projects. Anastasia Volochkova also periodically worked in other theatres, for example, in Krasnodar, at the theatre of Yuri Nikolaevich Grigorovich. She complains that she cannot restore the contracts from those years. Now the ballerina performs at various venues with performances, but also without an employment contract. Anastasia and her lawyer prepared for the trial: they found six months of “lost” dance experience in one of the country’s theatres: and in court they will try to “add” it to the pension experience.

More recently, Anastasia Volochkova claimed: “According to the documents, I have not received a single cent from the Bolshoi Theatre since 1998. Where did they put this money? It turned out that I had supposedly been on maternity leave for 15 years… According to my agreement with the Bolshoi Theatre, since 1998 I was supposed to receive a salary of 18 minimum wages a month (that is, 369 thousand rubles a month). Multiply this figure by 20 years – that is, I should have received more than 4 million rubles a year. The fact that in 2010 I was sent on administrative leave at my own expense is illegal. You can take such leave only if you write an application yourself. But my lawyer and I never found it anywhere. It turns out that the Bolshoi does not pay salaries, does not set a retirement date, and does not pay contributions for all these years.” The ballerina’s claims against the Bolshoi Theatre for financial compensation and restoration of seniority were rejected. The fight for a preferential pension lies ahead.
