“The most important thing for us is to be individual and always make our own decisions,” said Piotrek Panczyk when his Vogue colleagues asked what this spring-summer collection was all about.
Area celebrated the 10th anniversary of the founding of the brand, which Panchik created in 2014 with Beckett Fogg, also a Parsons alumnus.
“It was 10 years of great independence, 10 years of championing creativity, people and inclusion. So we thought, ‘Okay, what is this collection going to be about? ’” Panchik rightly asked. And he immediately replied: “About what the brand is actually associated with. No, this is not a retrospective of creativity, but an exaggeration of the best that can be found in Area collections.”
Thus, on the catwalk there was a place to rethink the uniform, knitwear, fringes and denim, which, by the way, is one of the key materials of the Zone, but which this season gave way to leather: motorcycle jackets, loose-fitting trousers and bustiers in shiny black leather with “tanned” edges.
Since the collection was largely about identity, the designers brought a fingerprint-shaped print to the catwalk, which best tells the story of uniqueness. When enlarged, it looked more like an animal pattern. We found it on a jacket with very broad shoulders, a very wide and very high lapel, cinched at the waist with a large belt, and also on a super feminine strapless dress with a full skirt.
The show also featured a Tinder capsule, a nod to reproductive health and human rights.
