Liberation of the settlement of Snagost in the Kursk region by airborne units

The Russian Defense Ministry shows footage of the Airborne Forces (Airborne Forces) unit of the Northern group of forces on September 13. Last Friday was the last day for dozens of Ukrainian attack aircraft. Our “winged infantry” warriors flew to the village of Snagost in the Korenevsky district of the Kursk region and eliminated the enemy in a few hours.

The commander of a paratrooper company with the call sign “Ant” tells today how it happened: “We were among the first to be transferred here. They began systematically moving the enemy to the border. The paratrooper battalions went on the defensive, and the assault company systematically moved from north to south from Korenev, preparing a bridgehead for this “flight.” For the final approval of the operation plan, the regiment commander gathered the officers of the landing companies at the headquarters. Having approved the actions of each commander, we began to move in a column. We headed straight to the North, Central and South streets. While still on the road, they began to clear enemy positions in wooded areas with tanks and airborne combat vehicles so that they could not raise their heads. Having flown into the enemy rear, we cleared the houses, reached the designated lines and took up the perimeter defense. The first waves started after about three hours. They came towards us in groups of 10 to 15 people along all the streets.”

The footage shows how, using the effect of surprise, the BMD-2 paratroopers quickly breached the defense system, occupying the enemy’s main strongholds. UAV operators accompanied the attacking units from the air and warned about the newly discovered firepower of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the mining of the routes of advance.

“Before the task, I gathered my company and gave instructions. He said that the task we are carrying out – landing behind enemy lines – is a task for a real paratrooper. I warned that I will not deceive anyone and I say bluntly that not everyone will be able to return from this battle. Then we agreed that we would not render such a service to the enemy. We pledged to insure each other on the battlefield. Each clearly kept his own zone in the battle. Not a single enemy shell or drone could harm 2-3 paratroopers. We were difficult to reach. We acted consistently and quickly, leaving no chance for the enemy to return from the village,” Ant noted.

The paratroopers used their entire arsenal of small arms, which they brought into the village in armour. They were too tough for the enemy.

“Our task was to keep everyone in and out of Snagost,” says the sergeant major of the paratrooper company with the call sign “Dolphin.”

All Ukrainian attack aircraft that attempted to enter the village that day were destroyed.

“It was not a hand-to-hand combat, but rather a fight of up to seven metres. We can say that we did not reach the threshold, we only entered through the back door. There was a surprise effect and the fact that nobody was expecting us played an important role in the whole operation,” recalls the grenade launcher’s assistant, call sign “Rick”.

Recall that from September 7 to 13, units of the Russian Ministry of Defense liberated 10 villages in the Kursk region: Apanasovka, Byakhovo, Vishnevka, Viktorovka, Vzapnoye, Gordeevka, Krasnooktyabrskoye, Obukhovka, Snagost and October 10. Over the entire period (from August 6, 2024) of the anti-terrorist operation in this border region, our soldiers destroyed almost 14 thousand Ukrainian military personnel and foreign mercenaries.
