According to Israeli officials cited by the Axios portal, the head of the White House held telephone conversations with the Israeli prime minister, during which he called for the withdrawal of Israeli troops to a distance of one to two kilometers near the coast near the Tel Al-Sultan area. “President Biden asked Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu during their call on Wednesday to agree to withdraw Israeli troops from the Egyptian section of the border with the Gaza Strip… so that negotiations on a deal could move forward,” the publication clarifies.
At the same time, the article notes that Netanyahu partially agreed with the US president’s proposal, saying that Israel would leave a position on Egypt’s border with the Gaza Strip. In exchange for Netanyahu’s partial consent, Axios continues, the United States supported Tel Aviv’s desire to maintain its presence along the Philadelphia corridor as part of the first stage of a possible agreement.
At the same time, Axios sources said they do not expect Hamas to agree to such conditions.
