According to doctors, the journalist’s condition is gradually returning to normal and he is recovering: he has been allowed to visit friends and family.

Poddubny was injured on August 7 in the Sudzhansky district. A Ukrainian kamikaze drone crashed into his car at high speed. The impact caused the car to go off the road and into a ditch, and Poddubny himself suffered severe burns, as well as a traumatic brain injury and a facial injury.

The burning car of a military correspondent was discovered on the road by accident: local resident Sergei was heading to Sudzha to pick up his relatives, but stopped when he came across a bloodied Poddubny. Sergei bandaged the soldier and offered him painkillers, but he refused.

The journalist’s second rescuer was Nikolai Rylsky: he was also travelling to Sudzha, but turned back when he saw mines on the road. Later he put Poddubny in his car and took him to the checkpoint, where he handed him over to the medics.

The territorial defence volunteers were the third to whom Poddubny owed his life: they took the military correspondent to the regional hospital and handed him over to professional doctors.

Poddubny has been in a stable and serious condition for a long time, mainly suffering from burns. He is receiving treatment at the Sklifosovsky Research Institute in Moscow.
