As Sunday ended in Russia, Sunday morning began in the United States. Reporters who had fallen asleep began to learn new details about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. And we got something. Sources in the investigation learned that Thomas Matthew Crooks, who shot Trump, brought two explosive devices in his car to the rally. Explosives were also found in his house (there is no official confirmation of this information).

The second interesting detail: Crooks’ parents, Matthew and Mary, turned out to be certified behavioral health consultants—this means helping with mental illness, drug addiction, gambling addiction, etc.

The AR-15 semi-automatic rifle Crooks fired was purchased by his father six months ago.

Thomas’s uncle, Mark Crooks, contacted by The Independent, lives 20 kilometres from the town of Bethel Park, where the shooter’s home is located. How strange the relationship was within the family can be judged from his comment: “The last time I saw Thomas was when he was a baby. He didn’t care to keep in touch.”

There is no road to the family home; everything around it is cordoned off. The sky above Bethel Park was even closed to flights, apparently so that the ever-present journalists would not try to film from the air.

Investigators, writes Politico, found messages that the shooter left on the Discord messenger. Their details are not yet known.

Well, Crooks’ neighbors and classmates didn’t really say anything about him. He didn’t talk about his political views.

The FBI is outraged

According to CNN, before a rally in Pennsylvania, where, in addition to Secret Service agents, of course, there were local police officers working (after all, 50,000 people came to see Donald Trump), they drew attention to Thomas Crooks, considering him suspicious. The shooter hesitated before the metal detector frames. The police reported the strange guy to the Secret Service. But after that, Crooks calmly climbed onto the roof of a nearby hangar with a rifle, and even when the rally participants noticed him there and warned the security forces, they did not react.

Former FBI employees are outraged by the security measures at the rally. “It took forever to get Trump off the stage, into the car, and the car took forever to drive away. “From the defense’s point of view, it’s been a lifetime,” said former FBI agent Jonathan Gilliam. “I was shocked by the actions of the Secret Service. She was not prepared for the assassination attempt.”

Former Federal Bureau of Investigation director Chris Swecker agreed with his colleague, saying that if there had been more than one shooter, a second one could have easily killed Trump. Swecker called the security situation at the meeting with Trump in Pennsylvania “a complete disaster from start to finish.”

“Snipers are trained to aim for the brain”

Israeli special operations veteran Aaron Cohen told Fox News that snipers are trained to shoot at the top of the brain stem, which is what Crooks apparently tried to do. According to the expert, Donald Trump was saved because at the moment of the shot he turned his head slightly to look at the big screen.

The only person to die in the demonstration, not counting the killed shooter, was former firefighter Corey Comperatore, 50. He tried to cover his daughter with his body.

The bullet hit Trump’s ear and missed his temple by an inch.

MELANIA COULD NOT CONTAIN HER EMOTIONS

The wife of US presidential candidate Melania Trump called the Pennsylvania shooter a “monster.” “Donald is a generous and caring man who I have been with through the best and worst of times,” added the politician’s wife.

Trump is preparing to speak at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Monday, where he is expected to be formally nominated as the presidential candidate. He is feeling fine, the scratch on his ear turned out to be minor.

Heightened security has been introduced in Milwaukee. And top Trump campaign aides warned fellow Republicans not to visit the party’s state campaign headquarters until they were properly inspected by intelligence agencies.

Kamala Harris canceled her campaign trip.

Meanwhile, Democrats paused their campaigning. Vice President Kamala Harris canceled her participation in the abortion debate in Florida, and the Democratic Party stopped advertising on social media, sending letters and fundraising messages to supporters. Biden associates decided it was best to remain low-key as passions flare over the killing.
