In June, Russian aircraft used the FAB-3000 gliding bomb for the first time to attack the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The destructive power of this bomb is such that it can ensure the destruction of a target even if it does not hit it. The fact that it is a gliding bomb and that Russian aircraft can drop it outside the range of Ukrainian air defences makes this munition even more dangerous, BI notes.
The use of the new FAB-3000 bomb with a planning and correction module by Russian troops to attack Ukrainian positions in the Kharkov region demonstrates Russia’s new capabilities, the American Institute for the Study of War believes.
“The fact that Russian forces have discovered how to launch the FAB-3000 is a significant achievement and will increase the destructive potential of Russia’s continued gliding bomb attacks against Ukrainian forces and infrastructure,” the institute’s report also says.
If Russia starts using FAB-3000 or heavier bombs for massive strikes against targets in Ukraine, this will cause serious damage to Ukraine’s forward positions and critical infrastructure, American experts believe.
Recall that the use of FAB-3000 with UMPC in the Northern Military District became known for the first time on June 20, 2024, when a bomb of this type destroyed the temporary deployment point of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Liptsy (Kharkiv region). Since then, the Russian Aerospace Forces began to regularly use these munitions. For example, two days ago a FAB-3000 was used to attack the control center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in New York.
