The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and the Frazier Family Foundation, founded by entrepreneur Kenneth Frazier, created the Empowered Vision Award. The initiative aims to promote equality in the fashion industry and support independent black designers. WWD writes about this.
The award winner will receive $100,000 for business and collection development, as well as a year-long mentorship program. The winners will be chosen by Carlos Nazario, Diane von Furstenberg, Shiona Turini, Alastair McKim, Emilia Rubinfeld, Stephanie Horton and Walter Fry.
“This partnership comes at a time when the need for greater investment and dedicated support for Black-owned businesses is greatest. Together, the Frazier Family Foundation and the CFDA are taking a bold step to eliminate these inequalities and ensure a more inclusive and dynamic future for American fashion,” said Family Foundation Trustee James Frazier (son of Kenneth Frazier).
Previously Tiffany & Co. became the founder of a new jewelry award. It is organized in collaboration with the Council of Fashion Designers of America. We talk in more detail here.
