Chery has updated its best-seller in Russia – the Tiggo 7 Pro Max mid-size crossover. The novelty is already available at dealers in six trim levels at prices ranging from 2 million 770 thousand rubles to 3 million 320 thousand rubles.
The appearance of the updated Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max is distinguished by a modified radiator grille and front bumper. The designers integrated the brand name into the rear bumper on the double line of taillights. Also noteworthy is the new wheel design and rear side window decoration. For an additional price, the car is available in two colors, in particular with a black roof and mirrors.
As for the changes inside, the dark brown interior, made of eco-leather, is complemented by matte grey inserts on the front panel and door panels. The multimedia system and instrument panel complex is represented by a single 2×12.3-inch curved dual display. The gear lever has become more ergonomic, allowing you to change the direction of the car’s movement using the force of two fingers instead of the palm.
According to Maxim Davidenko, head of the product and service development department of Alfa-Leasing Group of Companies, the new design of the updated version of the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max, reminiscent of a hybrid version of a crossover, will stand out from its competitors. And the presence of six configurations at once will attract the attention of a wide group of buyers. Today, few car manufacturers present so many versions of one model. The most popular Chinese models (Exeed VX, Kaiyi X7 Kunlun, Changan CS95, Jaecoo J8, Geely Monjaro) have 2-3 versions each, Haval Dargo – four.
“Most Russian drivers would like to choose an all-wheel drive car. But when buying it, you need to consider not only desire, but also the price and availability of the car. In the case of the Tiggo 7 Pro Max, the first all-wheel drive version is Active AWD, which costs 120 thousand rubles more than a similar front-wheel drive version. The difference in price is more than justified, even if there are no availability issues. Active AWD cars may become the most popular version of the Tiggo 7 Pro Max,” says Alexander Kovalev, head of the press service of the Expocar Group of Companies.
At the same time, in his opinion, the Prime package has much more interesting equipment, with a difference in price of only 180 thousand rubles. This package seems optimal in terms of overpaying for a higher level of comfort and safety compared to the initial version. Again, much will depend on the cars available.
More powerful and more expensive
The updated Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 150 hp. in combination with a 7-speed DCT robotic gearbox. Thus, the model lost the basic 1.5 turbo engine (147 hp), which was available in conjunction with a CVT.
According to Alexander Kovalev, ditching the base engine and CVT seems logical – the car has become more dynamic and economical. On the other hand, the starting price of the 7 has now increased slightly, and this may discourage some buyers who will safely choose to consider the Xcite X-Cross 7 as a direct alternative. But whether the X-Cross 7 can realise its potential depends largely on the success of building the brand, developing a dealer and service network, as well as the quality of service.
Recall that sales of the Chery Tiggo 7 crossover started on the Russian market in 2020, and since then it has been chosen by more than 112 thousand buyers (including 7 Pro and 7 Pro Max). It is worth noting that since 2021, the “seven” has been the undisputed sales leader in the Chery range in our country. At the same time, sales of the Tiggo 7 family grew steadily every year, reaching a peak in 2023, when 53.9 thousand cars were sold. The appearance of the updated version of the Tiggo 7 Pro Max is designed to further stimulate demand for Chery’s best-seller. Considering the high sales dynamics of the model this year, 2024 should mark another record for the Chery Tiggo 7 family on the Russian market.
According to Alexander Kovalev, Tiggo 7 Pro Max is the public’s favorite and Chery’s main task is to maintain the achieved leadership. However, this will not be easy, as the mid-size crossover segment is one of the most competitive.
“A huge selection of configurations and flexible pricing will allow the updated version of the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max crossover to become a competitor to such models as the Geely Atlas Pro with a starting price of 2.76 million rubles, BAIC X55 – from 2.97 million rubles, and even the old Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max with a price of 3.2 million rubles,” Maxim Davidenko sums up.
